Starting Again

This is a blog about how anyone can start again.

I’ve done it several times.  I think of this as a new adventure, an opportunity to reinvent myself and build the life I want.  Of course it would have been much easier if I had been able to figure this out in my twenties, but alas it didn’t happen that way for me.

Some of my circumstances were not of my own making, some were like getting married too young, getting divorced a few years later, and becoming a single parent who was responsible for raising two small children on my own by choice.  However, I had a good job, made a reasonable salary, great benefits and worked in a somewhat coveted company in a very corporate environment where I had worked my way up from being a lowly clerk to a manager with a large staff.

However, after working in the corporate world for over 20 years, I had a life altering moment.  It was so life altering, that I changed everything I could about my life.  I no longer wanted to work just for a paycheck, and even though I had two children to raise as a single parent, I decided to get a job I enjoyed even though I didn’t make a ton of money doing it.  So I embarked on working and enjoying what I do.  I sold my house, moved my children to another state and went into business for myself.  I figured it out, had several good clients, was making good a decent income and then the floor dropped out.  My youngest child was diagnosed with a catastrophic illness.  So we went back to where we started, he went through treatment and since my clients required local service where we had lived,  I started again.

This time I wanted to do something fun.  So I began doing special events and working backstage at concerts.  It was fun, it was busy and I had a blast doing it.  While I was working in this very different non-suit environment, I had another life changing moment — I met someone I wanted to spend my life with.  After spending six months getting to know each other, we moved 600 miles away together and started again.

So there we were, living in a beautiful environment.  We started a business we hoped would be wildly successful, and while we waited for things to take off, we also worked full time jobs.  Business started off slow but eventually we had a thriving company, worked from home and lived in a gorgeous location.  However, the large change in seasons began to take its toll on us and we longed for more sun and no snow.  So we sold our business and again moved 600 miles to a new sunny location that didn’t have snow (at least nothing that required a snow blower or chains), and started again.

This time I wanted to do it differently.  One of us had a full time job while the other worked at being self employed.  We traded this option a couple of times while we worked out the kinks.  Eventually, we got things running like clockwork and just like that, we decided it was time to do something different.  After living in this warm and sunny environment for eight years, we long for the beach, toes in the sand, warm salty breezes and playing in the waves watching the sun set.  So my goal now, as I start again, to go from having a business where I have to be face to face with all my clients to working completely online.

I tell you all this to encourage you.  If you don’t like your current situation, its easy to change it.  Working online for yourself, no boss can tell you you’re too old or not hip enough to work for them.  So let me help you figure it out and make some money along the way.

We’re going to talk about health, diet, menus, food, and working at what you love.  And remember, if I can make a good living working at home, so can you.
